“Chen Huai-cheng Papers “ and “Fu Xi-qi Papers” are released on TAIS

Chen Huai-cheng Papers (T0791) This record group includes Chen Huai-cheng’s personal diaries and notebooks. Chen Huai-cheng (1877-1940) is known as famous poet in Taiwan. He has two style names, Huai-ting and Xin-shui and one pseudonym, Qin-yuan. He is one of the members who founded the Li Club which was a very celebrated poem club at middle-Taiwan in Japanese colonial period. He had been the mayor of Lukang street and district for 12 years. This record group discloses Chen’s personal life and also is the primary material for understanding the Taiwan’s village (or street) administration, daily life, and literary activities under Japan’s ruled. It contains two series: “Chen Huai-cheng’s Dairy” and “Chen Huai-cheng’s notebooks”. There are total 18 items opened as digital images which can be read in Reading Room and only can make a copy by transcribing. Fu Xi-qi Papers (T0889) This record group contains Fu Xi-qi’s diaries, his elder son, Fu Chun-kui’s diaries, Fu’s personal correspondence, and Fu’s family records. Fu Xi-qi (1872-1946) was first named Fu Dong-nan and Xi-qi is his style name. He has several pseudonyms: He-ting, Fu-cheng, and the Dan-lu Elder. He had passed the country level imperial exam in the 19th year of Qing Guangxu (1893). After Japan ruling Taiwan, he had been a reporter of Hanwen Newspaper, a studying-affairs committee member of Tantzu Public School, the director general of Tantzu Credit Association, the mayor of Tantzu village, and etc.. After work, he was active in taking part in literary clubs. He is also one of the members who founded Li Club, a poem club. He had be the leader of Li Club for 30 years. Through the comparison these records with “Diaries of Shui-Zhu House’s master” and “Diaries of Mister Guan-yuan” which are both collected on Taiwan Diary Knowledge Bank, a deeper understanding of the thoughts, interpersonal relationships, and social activities of Taiwan scholars will be shown. This record group contains three series: personal diary, personal correspondence, and family records. There are total 131 items opened as digital images which can be read in Reading Room and only can make a copy by transcribing.
