This collection comprises land records, personal contracts, licenses, and allotment agreements among devisees of the Zhang family of Hudu Village, as well as relevant documents about Wei Agui’s offspring. It is a source for understanding the development of Guanxi area, especially the developing trace of the Zhang family, the uniqueness of Hakka written language, and the early interactions between the plain aborigines and the Han settlers. New version of Taiwan Collectanea Search System is launched
2016-05-31
In order to support academic research, the Institute of Taiwan History (ITH), Academia Sinica devotes its efforts to build digital systems for presenting diverse historical materials. In 1990s, the Preparatory Office of ITH participated in Sinology Books Automating Project of Academia Sinica and chose “Taiwan Collectanea” as the object. Through this project, ITH built “Taiwan Collectanea Search System” for the public to access and search the whole contents of Taiwan Collectanea. As ITH was the content provider, the Department of Information Technology Services, Academia Sinica was the system developer and also maintained the system. After three times reversion, ITH decided to rebuild the system to improve the usability. The aim of the revision is to make the system sustainable to provide better and more stable service to the public.

The new version of “Taiwan Collectanea Search System” contains Taiwan Collectanea, The Summary of Taiwan Collectancea, and Taiwan Prefecture Gazetteer which is written by Jiang, Yu-ying. Taiwan Collectanea was edited and published by the Economic Research Office of Taiwan Bank from 1957 to 1972. It containsTaiwan related official and unofficial writing which were generated from Tang and Song dynasties to Japanese colonial period. There are total 311 kinds, near 600 books, and around 50 million words in the contents.

There are 46 kinds of Chinese local gazetteers, total 116 books, in the Taiwan Collectanea. For users’ convenience, the system provides optional function for users to determine if the search result includes the contents of Chinses local gazetteers or not. Except providing full-text search function and browsing by collectanea or local gazetteers, the new system enhances more features as followings:
  1. Using chapter as basic unit make it easirt for users to understand the whole picture of the book and to find out needed data.
  2. The e-books-like interface allows users to read the data in sequence.
  3. Advanced search function makes searching more flexible and intuitive.
  4. The search result is shown as a list, and users can get the information easily by the print, save, and email functions.
Everyone is welcomed to visit the new system. There is the guideline (written in Chinese) of using the system. Please feel free to download it.
