An exhibition titled “Inverting 1895–The Exhibition on the 120th Anniversaries of Japanese Receiving Taiwan Incident” is on display again from 1 March, 2016 to 17 June, 2016. Since its first show in the Exhibition Center for Digital Culture, Academia Sinica ended successfully in December 2015, the exhibition reopens to response the expectancy of the public. The exhibition is curated by the Institute of Taiwan History (ITH), Academia Sinica, in cooperation with the College of Hakka Studies at National Chiao Tung University. This exhibition features various historical materials which are organized to reappear the great change of Taiwan from the Mudan Incident to the cession of Taiwan in 1895. At that time, a series situations occurred in Taiwan: the takeover from Japan, the attack by force, the Republic of Formosa, the confrontation of the disbanded militias and guerrilla, and Taiwanese’s pursuit of survival. The exhibition attempts to improve audiences’ comprehension of people’s life and choice under the uneasy political situation, as well as the significance and influence of the Japanese Conquest of Taiwan. The contents of the exhibition will lead audiences to go through the history of Taiwan Island in 1895 via various points of view. Everyone is welcomed to visit the exhibition held in Hsinchu County, and to read the stories about the island, Taiwan. Exhibit Info
