Records of Guanxi Region
The development of Guanxi area began in 1791, when Wei Agui of Zhuqian Village arrived the east side of Xinpu. This collection comprises land records, personal contracts, licenses, and allotment agreements among devisees of the Zhang family of Hudu Village, as well as relevant documents about Wei Agui’s offspring. It is a source for understanding the development of Guanxi area, especially the developing trace of the Zhang family, the uniqueness of Hakka written language, and the early interactions between the plain aborigines and the Han settlers. Besides, these documents are precious for studying women’s life from the late Qing to the early Japanese colonial period.

Memory in Everyday Life: Taiwan Diary Exhibition is opened in National Archives Administration, NDC
2015-06-29

For spread diary collections and publications in Institute of Taiwan History (ITH), following exhibitions of “Every Day Is a Good Day: Taiwan Dairy Exhibition” in 2009 and “Diary in Life‧Kaohsiung in Diary Exhibition” in 2014, we cooperate with National Archives Administration, NDC and Kaohsiung Museum of History to hold “Memory Everyday in Life: Taiwan Diary Exhibition”.

12 writers’ diaries are exhibited, such as Zhang Li Jun(張麗俊), Fu Xi Qi(傅錫祺), Chen Huai Cheng(陳懷澄), Lin Xian Tang (林獻堂), Yang Shui Xin (楊水心), journalist-Huang Wang Cheng(黃旺成), movement promoter-Jian Ji(簡吉), doctor- Wu Xin Rong(吳新榮), Yang Ji Zen(楊基振), litterateur- Lu He Ruo(呂赫若), and the other are musician- Gao Ci Mei(高慈美) and Ye Cheng Ji. They saw real records of the development of Taiwan's history in their course of life history.

This exhibition especially prepares for two themes: the 1935 Taichung earthquake and the World War II in 1945. Choosing different writer’s dairies and photographs can let we look back memories of the earthquake before 80 years ago, or let we reflect on people’s feel when Taiwanese people sheltered from air raid and heard that the emperor of Japan announced surrender. The Diary Exhibition not only promotes research findings of historical materials to public, but also expects to discover more Taiwan diaries to inherit our common memory.
